Murray, I love reading your blog. Thanks for describing that perfect stillness before the applause kicks in--it can be my favorite piece of a performance as performer or audience member.

Hmmm, while I agree with most of your commentary, it seems that will be tough in today's society where impatience rules and cell phones seem to have single-devicedly (new word?) changed the rules of what is considered appropriate behavior. When one is not talking, or checking for left verbal messages, it seems that texting needs to happen to fill the void of inactivity/silence that is briefly presented. (Realize these slanted comments are from a non-cell phone owner in his 40s who appreciates a good moment of silence). Not only will it be tough, but it might be totally ignored or overseen by the rest whom while wanting to give their due appreciation, are also looking about to ensure they have coats, purses and other flotsam prior to leaving. I will try to remember your words at the next performance. Thanks!
