Welcome 2011! Thank you all for making the debut of Prologue Lecture Series this fall so successful. Many of you were lucky enough to hear the Public Theater’s Oskar Eustis talk eloquently about the state of professional theatre in America… some of you had the chance to chat with him one-on-one after the talk. Double Edge Theatre blew the roof off of the Bon Vivant Theatre in November with its production of The Chagall Tales and the open trainings and discussions. And those of you who saw the charming National Public Radio star Hal Cannon discuss Christmas and cowboy poetry, will not soon forget the lovely occasion. While I may be a tad biased, I don’t think there is any theatre in the country offering such a wonderful and star-studded array of lecturers and events. Your enthusiastic support has made it possible. Now, if you missed any of these superstars, you can stop kicking yourself… it’s a new year! There is more exciting Prologue to come. The spring includes some incredible events… and just wait until you hear what we are cooking up for the fall!
After hosting some of America’s most important theatre practitioners we are happy to present a couple of our own experts in January. We found that THEATREWORKS supporter Melody Essendrop Fisher knows the world of air hosting pretty darn well. She was an international flight attendant based in Paris at the height of the glamor of air travel. And those of you who know Melody can attest to her colorful story telling abilities. Dr. Teresa Meadows, theatre professor and chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, lives part of the year in Paris and knows the French theatre world better than anyone we know. So, we thought we would get the two of them together in a room and let them talk, laugh, teach and story tell. It will be a preview to our production of Boeing Boeing. I am going to do my best to moderate the event. Wish me luck. “Flight Attendants and French Farce” will be a rollicking hour of stories and history. As with all of our events, you will learn something new and have a good time. And we will, of course, hand out small bags of peanuts.
Russian theatre expert/supernova professor Laurence Senelick will be visiting Colorado in March as part of Prologue and Russian Spring, our upcoming festival that will celebrate all things Russian. I am going to wrap up the Prologue season in April with a talk and demonstration of Russian acting techniques. Stay tuned for the announcement of the 2011-2012 Prologue Lecture Series in the coming weeks. I can hardly contain my excitement. Until then, happy New Year! Enjoy Boeing Boeing.
